Shotgun Dive Site Komodo

At Shotgun Komodo, we treat you to one of the park's most memorable drift dives. The channel funnels water between two islands, so we ride the flow along healthy coral walls while mantas, sharks, and schooling fish use the same nutrient-rich currents. It is fast when the tide peaks, and we love how alive the whole site feels.

We plan every Shotgun dive around slack and manageable windows whenever possible. Before we enter, we brief line protocols, positioning, and signals so everyone knows how to stay shallow, stay together, and exit safely. Our guides lead at a pace that matches the group, and we never push anyone beyond what the day allows.

The name says it all: when the current really runs, it can feel like you are being "shot" along the wall at exhilarating speed. That adrenaline rush is part of the appeal, balanced by the spectacle of mantas and sharks in the blue and rainbow walls of coral on both sides of the channel.

We recommend Advanced Open Water or equivalent and solid comfort in current. Prior drift diving experience helps because Shotgun is about reading the water, not fighting it. If you are unsure, talk to us at the dive center and we will suggest the right day and buddy group.

We generally reserve Shotgun Komodo for advanced divers because the flow can spike quickly in the channel. If you are still building confidence, we would rather show you gentler sites first, then welcome you back when you are ready for this level of drift diving Komodo.

We run boat trips from Sebayur Island on roughly a 45 minute ride to this area near Gili Lawa Darat. You can line up dives through our team at the dive center, or fold Shotgun into a longer itinerary on a Komodo liveaboard when currents and routing align.
