FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How many dive sites are in Komodo National Park?

Komodo National Park has over 30 recognized dive sites, though many more unnamed spots exist. The eight sites featured on this page represent the most popular and consistently impressive locations that we visit regularly from our resort and liveaboards.

Which Komodo dive site is best for beginners?

Siaba Besar is the ideal first dive in Komodo. With shallow depths (5-18 meters), calm waters, and gentle slopes, it offers new divers a safe and rewarding introduction to Komodo diving. Green turtles are frequently spotted here as well.

Which dive sites have manta rays?

Manta Point is the most reliable site for manta encounters, with sightings year-round. Shotgun and Crystal Rock also receive occasional manta visits, particularly when currents bring nutrient-rich water through the channels.

Can I visit all 8 dive sites in one trip?

From our resort, you can dive 2-3 sites per day. A week-long stay typically covers all the northern and central sites. To reach Cannibal Rock in the south, we recommend joining one of our liveaboard trips aboard the Komodo Sea Dragon or King Neptune.

What is the best time of year to dive these sites?

April through October offers the best overall conditions with higher visibility and calmer seas. However, November through February is manta migration season with spectacular gatherings at Manta Point. Every month has something special to offer.

Do I need Advanced certification for all sites?

No. Manta Point, Siaba Besar, Tatawa Besar, and Cannibal Rock are suitable for Open Water certified divers. Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, Shotgun, and Batu Bolong are best suited for Advanced Open Water divers due to variable currents.
