Tatawa Besar Dive Site

Yes. We love bringing newer divers to the Tatawa Besar dive site because the reef slopes gently and we can often run it as a relaxed, easy drift when the current is mild. Our guides match the profile to your comfort level, and we brief every group on buoyancy and drift technique before we enter the water.

Tatawa Besar Komodo is famous for long, scenic drifts over soft coral gardens. On calmer tides the glide feels almost effortless, which is perfect if you are still building confidence. When the flow picks up, the same reef offers a more exciting ride for experienced divers who enjoy a faster drift with plenty to see along the way.

We see green turtles and hawksbill turtles here on many of our dives. They rest on ledges, tuck under overhangs, or cruise the slope while reef sharks patrol nearby. If turtle diving Komodo is high on your list, we recommend moving calmly, giving them space, and letting our guides point out the best angles without crowding the animals.

The swim-throughs at Tatawa Besar add a sense of exploration without extreme overhead environments on most lines. We only guide swim-throughs when visibility and conditions allow, and we always confirm comfort levels first. If you prefer to stay in open water, we can still show you the same stunning reef from the outside.

We usually see the clearest water and friendlier surface conditions from April through November, which lines up with peak season across Komodo National Park. That said, we dive Tatawa Besar year-round when the sea state allows, and our team watches tides closely to pick the window that fits your group.
